Light a candle. Transform a life.

Being a mom is hard. Being a single, young mom is harder. So when we were contacted by the team at  Bright Endeavors we jumped at the opportunity to support what they're doing. Bright Endeavors is a social enterprise based out of Chicago that seeks to employ and support young mothers through the creation of handcrafted soy based candles. 100%...let me say that again...ONE HUNDRED PERCENT...of the proceeds go directly back into the program. In honor of Mothers Day we asked the company if we could hear directly from some of the women in their program about their experiences. We hope you are as encouraged as we are.

"I became a mom at the age of 16. I didn’t know what kind of struggles I was going to face, but I made a promise to myself and my son that I would never give up. I joined the Workforce Development Program at New Moms, the parent organization of Bright Endeavors. A highlight of this program is a paid transitional job at Bright Endeavors. I gained so much confidence as I developed skills, not only in candle making, but also as a competent employee with leadership skills and potential to learn and grow in a work setting. After my transitional job at Bright Endeavors, I went back to school and moved into my first apartment. I was fulfilling my promise to my son and I felt so hopeful about my future! "

"I've learned a lot of personal and professional skills: I'm confident, I bring my resume to interviews. Now during job interviews, I research the company beforehand, look the interviewer in the eye, and ask good questionsin the interview. My cohort has helped me a lot. We can relate to each other, and it helps me problem solve. I'm stronger now than I was when I started. I'm doing things I never thought I could do. Without this opportunity, I’d be home, sitting down, waiting for something to come to me. Bright Endeavors gives me a support system, and sees my value and worth. Now I have goals and aspirations. Now I know how to take care of myself so I can take care of my daughter."

We think these candles would make a lovely gift for Mothers Day and for teacher appreciation gifts at the end of the school year. Our absolute favorite scent is Black Currant Orchid. Thank you Bright Endeavors for letting us try your lovely candles and for the work you are doing to honor Motherhood.
